Bilingual Lessons![]() Linguists recommend, starting to learn a second language as early as possible. The acquisition of language is identical with the mother tongue up to the age of seven years. Vocabulary, structures of sentences and speech-melody are acquired in an intuitive manner and without effort, which makes the approach, the reception and the use of language easy. By the use of necessary transfer thinking and the linking-up of different languages, intelligence is enhanced and inspired to find creative answers to problems. In the meantime, it is common knowledge that multilingualism not only promotes all cognitive and creative processes but also leads to increased communication skills of the mother tongue. The bilingual special classes at Rosing School will be conducted in English and German. The goal is to enhance and train the natural use of language. Therefore the immersion method will be used. Immersion means to „dive“ into a language or to take a language bath. By using this method the new language is work- and colloquial language. Following the principle “One person – one language” one educator speaks only German, he other only English. Everything the foreign-language educator says is enhanced by facial expressions, gestures or pointing. The child then develops the language independently piece for piece with reference to the situation. This mimics the natural way in which children learn languages, no matter whether it is the first or second. Therefore, immersion is more appropriate for children than any other method. It strongly motivates and does not need force or pressure to perform. Immersion does not overburden the children but activates their natural curiosity and motivates to make use of and enhance the second language. |
